We have been asked to create an initial video of a film opening to practice Match-of-action, the 180 degree rule and shot reverse shot for dialogue, as well as learning to use different technologies such as a film camera and editing software.
Match-of-action:
Match-of-action:
Match on action is an editing technique for continuity editing where one shot cuts to another shot continuing the action that is happening in the first shot. This creates the impression of a sense of continuity, the action carries on and makes the editing look seamless.
180 degree rule:
A filming guideline that actors in a scene should have the same left-right relationship to eacthother.
Over the Shoulder Shot:
Over the shoulder shot is when the camera is placed over the shoulder of the character, usually used in conversation. The characters head and shoulders are seen in the foreground and are used as a framing device for the shot, this way both characters are physically present in the shot.
Example: The Piano when Ada’s looking back at the beach to the piano left behind.
